From iPhone Edits to a Full Studio: My Journey in Video Production

Two years ago, I started creating videos with nothing more than an iPhone. I captured and edited everything on my phone, keeping my workflow simple and efficient. This approach was perfect for short videos, allowing me to focus entirely on storytelling. Over time, I upgraded to a Canon R6 for better image quality but still relied on my phone for editing. Eventually, I transitioned to an iPad Pro, using the same editing software I had grown accustomed to.

This simple workflow served me well, even for larger projects like my PBS documentary. Editing three 30-minute episodes on an iPad, however, was far from ideal. I struggled to achieve the level of polish I envisioned while staying within the limitations of my setup. That experience taught me that if I wanted to elevate my craft, I needed a serious upgrade.

The Big Change for 2025

As we head into 2025, I’ve completely revamped my post-production process. I’ve invested in a desktop editing studio equipped with professional-grade software. After much consideration, I chose Final Cut Pro. While many recommend DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere, I wanted to stick with something that complements my Apple ecosystem while significantly enhancing my quality and performance.

Final Cut Pro has been a game-changer. I’ve already created my first short video after diving into YouTube tutorials to learn the basics. This new workflow allows me to incorporate effects, text, and other features that were previously out of reach. While I’m still learning, I’m confident this upgrade will result in a far superior product for my clients.

Lessons from a Simple Start

Starting with basic tools like an iPhone and iPad taught me invaluable lessons about storytelling and focusing on the big picture. By working within those limitations, I developed a strong foundation that I’m now building upon with my upgraded setup.

Looking Ahead

The first video I created with Final Cut Pro is packed with effects and text—elements I’ve never used before. It’ll take time to refine my style, but I’m excited to explore these new creative possibilities. Roosevelt Road Video is ready to deliver the best video production in the Texas Panhandle, and I’m determined to attract top-tier clients in 2025.

In the meantime, I’ll be practicing with older footage to master the software. Check out my latest work on YouTube (just use the menu tab in the top left corner to jump to my channel). Let’s make 2025 the year we turn dreams into reality.
