Back on the Rodeo Trail

There’s something special about the rodeo trail—the grit, the tradition, the stories that unfold under big skies and bright arena lights. This weekend, I’m diving headfirst into a new project that has me fired up: a mini-documentary featuring a young rodeo phenom.

Coming off the heels of wrapping my 90-minute public art documentary, this project feels like a homecoming of sorts. While I’ve been immersed in the creative and cultural tapestry of public art, stepping back into the world of rodeo storytelling feels like returning to my roots.

For this project, I’m taking everything I learned from my work with Shad Mayfield and dialing it up. The storytelling, the visuals, the emotional beats—I’ve grown as a filmmaker, and I’m ready to put those advancements on full display. This isn’t just a quick turnaround video; it’s a chance to capture the essence of what makes rodeo such a compelling and timeless sport.

I’m eager to share the story of this young athlete, someone who’s already making waves in the rodeo world. Their journey is packed with determination, talent, and the kind of heart that makes this sport so magnetic. With the National Finals Rodeo just around the corner, my goal is to complete this project before it kicks off—a celebration of what it means to chase your dreams in the arena.

This project is a stepping stone to what’s next—a preview of the storytelling transformation I’ve been working on, ahead of the release of my public art documentary next year. I can’t wait to share this rodeo story with all of you. Stay tuned—it’s going to be something special.
